Sydney Pollack in The Sopranos

Here's a clip from The Sopranos showing what a great, subtle acting job this guy could do. Watch what he does to this macabre, comedic monologue about what got him into prison... I know I talk a lot about how great I think big, hammy actors like Welles, Vincent Price and Shatner are.

But don't think I don't like method acting. What Pollack does here shows how an actor trained in Meisner's method can bring a trancendent matter-of-factness to the most bizarre lines...

Listen to how he gets to the phrase "...I had to commit."

He will be missed.
