Okay, just a little namedropping before I go...*

Not Scorsese.
I now have sat through two of these shows in a row, where I knew a few of the participants. Last year it was Eddie Schmidt who was nominated for producing a documentary from HBO called "Twist of Faith"in 06. I directed him in two sketch shows that he wrote and performed in with a group called Ooze. He leant me his digital video camera once. Once. It took a while for me to get it back to him. Maybe a year and a half.
This year it was three of Ellen's writers...

Karen Anderson- stand up/writer. I wrote and performed in a sketch show she created in San Francisco called "You Gotta Cover Your Nut". Aisha Tyler also appeared for one night in the show in a sketch I worked on with Karen as a sub for my fiend Andrea Levin (see right hand column).

Liz Feldman- improv actress/stand up/writer. I met Liz when I auditioned for an improv group she was a part of, so she got to see me give one of the worst auditions I've ever given. And that's saying a lot. She was kind enough to overlook this and appear in one of my recreations of an old Shadow radio script called "The Blind Beggar Dies".

Karen Kilgariff- stand up/writer/actress. Karen squints when she is thinking of something unpleasant. The times I've seen her, I've only seen her squint.

My fiend Capt. Spaulding is blogging continuous commentary throughout the show tonight and it's much funnier than Harry Knowles' continuous commentary.

Washington DC's local news following the show bumped Oscar wrap ups from their local entertainment reporter for coverage of our sudden heavy snows today. In LA, the city could be in flames and they still would lead with "who won, who lost, and who's wearing what".

I miss LA.
*"Only a little?", you say. And I sigh, because I was never good at the clever comebacks. Sigh.

I wonder sometimes if I would miss L.A., but I think...not.

It's gotten worse since you've gone.

Did they win? I wasn't paying attention.

I only miss the show bizz-ness of it. The "Can't raise kids here" I don't miss at all.

How could it be any worse?

If by "they" you mean Eddie Schmidt, no he didn't win that year. But he and his directing partner went on to do "This Film Is Not Yet Rated" which all shold see.

If by "they" you mean the ladies who write for Ellen, I'm sure just being a writer of gags for The Big Honkin' Show Biz Awards Show is honor enough.

and by "shold", I mean "should".
