Rome, if you want to...

I just found that one of the great sixties private eye films "Tony Rome" (or "Frank wants to be Bogie") is coming out on dvd May 24th, 2005. I love this film as the plot works as much as the "Sinatra wanting to be cool" touches do. Just take a gander at the lyrics to the haunting "Theme From Tony Rome" as performed by Frank's daughter Nancy in the film's opening credits...

Mothers lock your daughters in
It's too late to talk to them.
Cause Tony Rome is out and about
And Tony Rome'll get 'em
If you don't watch out.
Tony Rome'll get 'em
If you don't watch out.

Pussycats out run a stray.
He will bring them back today.
Cause Tony Rome is out and about.
And Tony Rome'll find 'em
If you don't watch out.
Tony Rome'll find 'em
If you don't watch out.

Love is for those who have the time to
Rome is for those who are inclined to.

Ladies' hearts adore diamond rings
Are not the very special things.
When Tony Rome is out and about.
Cause Tony Rome'll take 'em
If you don't watch out.
Tony Rome'll take 'em
If you don't watch out.

Love is for those who have the time to
And Rome is for those who are inclined to.

Ladies' hearts adore diamond rings
Are not the very special things.
When Tony Rome is out yeah and about.
Cause Tony Rome'll grab 'em
If you don`t watch out.
Tony Rome'll take 'em
If you don't watch out.
WATCH OUT!

Think about it. Frank though it would be okay to have his daughter sing this!

And a movie with Gena Rowlands and Shecky Greene can't be all bad... Posted by Hello

Speaking of Pack Ratters ;), just the other day I was ignored by Shirley MacClaine...AND her dog!

Not just Tony Rome but also its sequel Lady in Cement (featuring Richard Deacon) and the similarly-themed The Detective.

Considering that Frank sang a duet with Nancy about screwing up a relationship by making it serious, this theme seems nothing. Besides in '67, wasn't Nancy making a career out of singing movie themes?

Again, I tip my hat to you Captain. Between the Rome theme, "You Only Live Twice", and the unreleased "Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf? Frug" she was indeed the Hollywood "It" girl of movie themes in '67.

Hey kids, guess which of the above themes was made up?

Jones, hint to the wise. Don't buy any of the Sinatra detective flicks coming out. Just saying you might already have birthday presents. All I'm sayin'...
